A POLITICAL candidate has hit back at a councillor’s ‘outrage’ over roads works on Station Road, Pershore.

Joshua Godfrey, Conservative Candidate for Pinvin said about Liz Tucker: “It’s all well and good Liz moaning about this situation now, but she’s been the county councillor for the area for the past three years, so what’s she been doing?

“She has the resources and contacts at County Hall to do something about it, perhaps that’s what she should be doing instead of saying what residents already know.

“I’ve been out on the doorstep talking to residents in Pinvin about local issues, and issues which Wychavon District Council has control over.”

Homebuilder Persimmon Homes (PH) is working with Worcestershire County Council to carry out road improvements on the junction of Station Road and Wyre Road, Pershore, as part of access to its new housing development, Wyre Meadows.

Pershore councillor, Liz Tucker said at the time: “I’m completely fed up with the issues on this road.

“People living nearby will have to drive all the way to Drakes Broughton to get home to avoid the road when the town centre is in spitting distance.

Paul Lappin, technical manager at PH, said: “We apologise for the temporary inconvenience with the road closure, but endeavour to complete the works with the least possible disruption.

“While the junction will be closed to through traffic, access to frontages and properties within the Wyre Meadows development will be maintained at all times.”

Sharn Blatch, aged 22, who works at ProDrive Recruitment located on Pershore Trading Estate off Station Road is also annoyed about the works and said:”We have many of our temporary workers spotting our vacancies in our window display.

“I think when the road closes we won’t have the same level of foot-fall so our business could suffer."

Work is underway on Station Road and due for completion on Sunday, April 28.

The diversion in place is via the A44 to Egdon, then the B4084 Egdon Lane and B4084 Worcester Lane through Drakes Broughton for southbound traffic and the same for northbound traffic.
