AN archery group which puts an emphasis on social activities is going from strength to strength.

Bowmen of Alcester was created in autumn 2017 by experienced archers and coaches Ray Howells, Steve Martin and Richard Hardcastle.

The aim was to create a friendly local club that puts an emphasis on the social activities.

"We may only be a new club, but Bowmen of Alcester has brought a welcome addition to our town," said member Jane Taylor.

"The club has recently celebrated its first anniversary and what a year it’s been."

"Since its inception we have welcomed many new members, shooting alongside our seasoned veterans with over 70 years experience between them."

She added: "For myself I was limited to when I was free to shoot and too many clubs wanted heavy commitment levels that just didn’t suit my busy schedule or were too far to travel to.

"When Bowmen of Alcester was created, I like many of my fellow archers jumped at the opportunity and haven’t looked back since. The club is going from strength to strength and three of our members recently attended our first tournaments as a club and came away with great success.

"We have a fantastic camaraderie in the club and when we’re not shooting we organise evenings out and day trips. In the last year we have contributed to many local events including the Alcester Court Leet family fun day where we ran have-a-go sessions for the visitors.

"Archery isn’t always about competing, we have members who just enjoy coming along on a Tuesday night, having a shoot and enjoy the company of like-minded people. "We are always open to new members."
