A BIRTHDAY party is being held for Lilly-Jo Caldcott, the 10 year-old girl from Worcester who attempted suicide after being bullied at school.

The team at Chawson Barn Community Hall, Droitwich, decided to hold a party after reading of Lilly-Jo’s story in the Worcester News.

Hannah Blomfield, who helps run the hall said: “I read the story online and saw it on Facebook and thought it was terrible that Lilly-Jo couldn’t celebrate her 10th birthday as she was in hospital.

“We decided it would be nice to give her a party so I asked for local businesses and people to help out.

Since posting the appeal for help on the hall’s Facebook page, dozens of companies and individuals have offered support through donations, entertainment or raffle prizes for the event.

All this has meant the party has developed into a fund-raising event as well as a birthday party for Lilly-Jo.

Ms Blomfield said: “The response we got was more than I ever expected.

“It is a great sign of the strength of the community that we can come together like this.”

The party will be invite-only and it is expected that there will be around 100 people there.

Lilly-Jo, 10, was rushed to Worcestershire Royal Hospital by her mother after she overdosed on unspecified tablets.

When Lilly-Jo’s mother Jess Brown tried to call the bully’s parents, she claims she was laughed at down the phone.

She also confirmed Lilly-Jo will not be returning to Witton Middle School in Droitwich.

Pupils at the school were apparently told the story was “fake news” in an assembly and that the story had been over-exaggerated, prompting an angry protest from parents.

The county council responded that the school had followed the correct procedures.
