TWO men arrested on suspicion of modern slavery have been released under investigation.

A 56-year-old man, from Worcester, and a 40-year-old man, from West Bromwich, were apprehended after the raids on two properties in Lowesmoor, Worcester, on Friday.

Locals wrote on social media that one of the warrants took place at Black Cherry Gentlemen's Club, while the other happened at a private home.

Detective Inspector Mark Roberts, from West Mercia Police, said: “Officers acted following intelligence received from the local community that the suspects had been trafficking and exploiting victims who had recently arrived in the UK.

“Human trafficking, modern slavery and exploitation are issues that impact whole communities which is why we work closely with our partners to help gain a broader picture of the current situation and how it could affect people living and working in Worcestershire.

"These crimes remain hidden in our communities and we take reports of this nature extremely seriously. While we will continue to work hard to find victims and target the individuals and businesses who take advantage of such labour, we need the public's help to do this.

“These warrants are an example of how we are dedicated to taking positive action on tackling serious and organised crime in our community.”

DI Roberts added that intelligence from members of the public is vital in cracking down on human trafficking and modern slavery.

Lowesmoor was closed during the raids, although it reopened later.

The police carried out the warrants in partnership with other agencies, including the National Crime Agency, HM Revenue and Customs, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army and Worcestershire County Council.
