REDDITCH Council leader Matt Dormer has slammed the outcome of an inquiry into allegations of bullying, something he says was designed to cause him maximum embarrassment.

Earlier this year a letter was sent out to parents saying that Redditch United Football Club was investigating the conduct of under 14s coach Matt Dormer and that he was suspended from the club.

At the time Cllr Dormer strongly denied the allegations and said that he had in fact stepped down from the role.

Now, an inquiry held by Redditch United into allegations of bullying and harassment made against Cllr Dormer unanimously concluded that he breached the FA ‘Respect’ programme and not conducted himself in a professional manner.

Cllr Dormer accused the club of showing him no respect.

He stressed the allegations are "completely false and malicious, designed to cause me maximum embarrassment".

In a statement Cllr Dormer said: "I have been made aware by email that an inquiry by Redditch United Football Club into allegations of bullying and harassment made against me by an individual member of staff has concluded.

"I am surprised and disappointed as I had not been asked to give my side of the story.

"I had written to the club saying I would be available for interview at its convenience. I did not receive a response."

He added: "The club’s actions fly in the face of natural justice. I have not been allowed to defend myself and do not know the details of what I’m being accused of.

"The club has shown me no respect and the inquiry can hardly be called ‘extensive’ when it has only heard one side.

"I am saddened by the club’s actions. I spent many happy years at Redditch United coaching young people and am grateful for the support I’ve received from parents and others since the allegations surfaced.

"I will do all in my power to clear my name as quickly as possible."

Speaking after the findings of the panel, Redditch United chairman, Chris Swan, said: “Following an extensive independent inquiry into allegations of bullying and harassment instigated by Matthew Dormer, and the receipt of several supporting witness testimonies, the panel has found that these allegations are supported and his behaviour was below what we expect at our club.

“As a consequence, Mr Dormer has left the club, as any continued involvement would be untenable.”
