MORE than 80 people visited Malvern Theatres for a free event which showcasing vital services on offer to older people in the district.

Organised by Malvern Hills District Council, the event was held in support of World Mental Health Day.

Focusing on the theme of ‘dementia awareness’, the event was an opportunity for older people, their family, friends and carers to find out more about what local services are available to help them to age well.

Andrew Easton of BBC Hereford and Worcester opened the event where more than 25 stall holders were promoting their services.

A number of taster sessions and activities took place including Dementia Friends sessions, a memory walk, blood pressure checks and an over-60’s Pilates class.

The organisations that attended included Age UK Malvern and District, Fortis Living, Freedom Leisure, West Mercia Police, Worcester Association of Carers, Alzheimer’s Society, and Community Action Malvern and District.

Cllr David Watkins, the council's portfolio holder for housing and communities, said: "Our Showcase of Services for Older People event is an invaluable resource for our community and is a great opportunity for residents to find out the great services we have on offer locally.

“It was a well attended event so I would like to thank everyone who came, both exhibitors and visitors. Events like this are all part of our commitment to improve people’s health and well-being and to raise awareness of the support and advice we can provide.”
