AN appeal has been put out for an artist or designer to work with a tree stump dug up near Ludlow castle.
Councillor Graeme Perks has the stump which was planted in 1919 at the end of World War One. The area where the tree stump was removed will be replanted in October with a sapling from Ludlow’s French twin town of La Ferte Mace not far from where the D-Day World War Two landings took place. Therefore, it has links with an important part of history.
The 1919 root was unearthed in readiness to prepare the ground as specified by Heritage England as it’s so close to the castle walls.
Ludlow’s war memorial group wants to donate the stump to an artist or designer to give it a new lease of life. If anyone is interested, they should see Margaret Edwards at Poynes in Broad Street or email Councillor Graeme Perks.
