A FLEET of new gritters has been unveiled by Warwickshire County Council to take on winter’s snow and ice.
The eight new gritters, based at highways depots around the county, are capable of continual gritting and spreading operations over many hours.
Councillor Peter Butlin, portfolio holder for highways and transport, said: “In the event of severe weather, our highways teams work extremely hard to keep the county’s roads clear.
“The new vehicles are part of the 29 frontline fleet of Warwickshire gritters available to us to keep roads covered and cleared of ice and snow.”
At the start of the season, the council stocked about 14,000 tonnes of salt ready for winter gritting and reserves have just been topped up at all depots to ensure gritting can take place throughout the winter.
