THE appeal to catch thieves who wielded crowbars while robbing a shop in Chipping Campden has been ramped up by civic leaders.

Police launched a public appeal for witnesses or anyone with CCTV footage after two men, described as black, aged in their late 20s or early 30s and wearing face coverings, made off with “a quantity of money and cigarettes” from the One Stop shop, High Street, Chipping Campden on Sunday.

"Nobody was physically harmed” according to a police statement but it followed an armed robbery at the same shop on January 30.

On that occasion it was reported that two men wearing balaclavas and carrying knives entered the shop before threatening staff, demanding keys for the safe and taking a quantity of cash from inside.

Cotswold District Councillor Gina Blomefield took to Facebook to join the appeal for information.

"It is really devastating to learn that yet again the One Stop shop on the High Street has been targeted in a robbery on Sunday night," she said.

"Fortunately no one was seriously hurt in the incident but yet again it must have been a very frightening experience for the staff who were tied up as crowbars were used to open the ATM and steal the cash from the till. Cigarettes and alcohol were also taken.

"Anyone who has any information or saw unusual activity please contact the police urgently."

Chipping Campden Town Council clerk Joanna Harrigan, in response to questions about working CCTV in the area, added: "Chipping Campden Town Council are as shocked and angry as the rest of the community at the brazen robbery at the One Stop store on Sunday night.

"Our thoughts are with the hardworking staff who were put through this horrendous ordeal.

"With regard to the CCTV, this is now installed and working but some of the cameras are not yet fully calibrated. However, the police have been in contact and will be arranging to view all relevant footage as soon as possible."

Staff at the shop politely declined to comment and referred us to One Stop's head office which did not respond when contacted.

Officers would like to hear from witness or anyone who has CCTV footage of this latest incident.
