Littletons Village Hall was a little crowded for our April meeting as our speaker, Andy Pedrick, required four large tables for his demonstration of plant cuttings. We also had a good attendance of members both full and dual.

Our President, June Lloyd, was on holiday so our Vice President, Margaret Potter, took the meeting. She reminded us that next month we are discussing the Resolution “Mental Health Matters” before it goes forward to the NFWI Meeting in Cardiff. We are also busy preparing for our Craft Afternoon on May 16 to which we have invited both WIs and anyone else who wishes to attend.

Margaret then welcomed Andy to the meeting. He gave a brilliant talk on taking cuttings from even the smallest pieces of shrubbery and those who wanted to were encouraged to have a go themselves when he had finished demonstrating. He gave us a brief history of his time at Pershore College learning his trade but did stress that it was a little difficult to condense two years of learning into an hours lesson but he did very well.

We had two raffles, the usual monthly one and a special one for the Cathedral Window patchwork cushion which Shosh Goldstein had made for the Annual Council Meeting competition last year and for which she won first prize. The grand sum of £100 was raised from the sale of tickets and this will be handed over to St Richards Hospice, this being Shosh’s chosen charity. Mary Hilton was the lucky owner of the winning ticket. Hazel Hunter won the competition with a vase of Polygala Chamaebuxus Grandiflore, a beautiful yellow and maroon ground cover shrub.

The date of our next meeting is Tuesday, May 8 at 7.30pm at Littletons village hall when we will be discussing the aforementioned Resolution followed by a Members Evening. The Competition will be Something Beginning with “M” and we will hold our yearly Pennies for Friendship collection for ACWW. This is done by putting money by the competition entry each member considers to be the winner and the one which raises the most money is deemed to be the winner although no actual prize is awarded.

Guests and new members are welcome. For further information including fund raising events contact June Lloyd on 01386 830844 or view our website on www.littletonswi.moonfruit.com
