TWENTY-FOUR members were welcomed to our February meeting including new member Lou Roche. Jerusalem was sung and the minutes of January’s meeting were read, agreed and signed.

Outings and events itemised on various clipboards were discussed including an invitation from Toddington WI with whom we formed a friendship just over twenty years ago and have continued to meet nearly every year since.

Our speaker for the evening was Rosie Wynne who had brought along part of the WI Craft Collection. This collection was started after the War as it was felt such skills could be lost if they were not preserved. These items could then be used rather than just having to follow written instructions if wishing to copy them. There were examples of many needle crafts e.g. embroidery, crochet, knitting, smocking and lace making. Other examples of skills included woodturning and pewter work. Where possible Rosie tries to find out who made the items and to learn more of their provenance. The members took advantage of the opportunity to examine the collection at close quarters. The competition, A Craft Item made by a member was won by Margaret Potter with a stunning example of some delicate lacework. No evening would be complete without our usual delicious supper.

The date of our next meeting is Tuesday, March 13 at 7.30pm at Littletons Village Hall when Alan Thornton will give a talk entitled “A Day in the Life of a Seaside Hotelier”. The Competition is A holiday souvenir and why you chose it. Guests and new members are welcome.
