OUR meeting for May took on a slightly different format as it was our Resolutions Meeting. Following the singing of Jerusalem, President June Lloyd welcomed our new member Tina Fernandez to the fold and our guest for the evening, Pam, as well as our Link Delegate.

Business for the evening was to be delayed until after voting on the two Resolutions as our Delegate needed to leave as soon as possible to attend her own WI meeting. June had explained the outline of the evening, our Link Delegate further explained the formalities and the debates started, firstly on allowing carers for dementia patients to stay in hospital whilst their charge was receiving treatment and secondly on food waste in the food chain. The wording of the second resolution had been changed which slightly confused the issue but this was soon overcome. Opinions on both subjects were divided and many issues were raised. Finally the vote was taken on both subjects and our Link Delegate made a note of how we wished to vote before rushing off to her own meeting.

June then dealt with a small amount of business including whether the minutes of the Members Meeting should be read out at each meeting. It was agreed to revisit this at a later date. We are taking part in the Group Quiz next week and we wished our team every success. Daisy reported on the financial aspect of the Group Meeting last month which was a great success with members from all of our Group attending. The subject of fund raising for the Denman building was raised and this again will be revisited at a later meeting. It was agreed to hold a skittles evening in the near future with a view to making this a regular event and Margaret Potter explained more about the Creative Activities Competition at the Annual Competition in October.

We had our usual excellent supper and then, because we had no guest speaker, the competition was judged by members placing money against the various entries, the total of which will be sent to the ACWW to help with their work in the Third World. The competition, which was well supported, was “something beginning with ‘M’ and was won by Hazel Hunter with a Miners Lamp which had the most money placed by it.

Preparations for our next meeting, which is our Open Meeting, are well in hand. This meeting is open to WI members and Members of the Public (at a cost of £5 per ticket to include tea/coffee and cakes) and is on Tuesday, 14 June at the Littletons Village Hall at 7pm for 7.30pm. Some of our members will model clothes from major high street brands with the chance for people in the audience to try them on and purchase them after the show at greatly reduced prices.

Guests and new members are welcome. For further information contact June Lloyd on 01386 830844 and/or view our website - www.thelittletonswi.moonfruit.com
