February brought twenty-eight of our members plus one guest out on a cold evening to the warmth of the Village Hall. After the singing of Jerusalem President, June Lloyd detailed various business items and Val Davies talked about our Open Meeting later in the year which is to be a Fashion Show and asked for volunteers to model the clothes. This invitation was met with great enthusiasm from members.

June then introduced our speaker for the evening, Cameron Addicott, who gave a talk entitled “Undercover with Customs and Excise”. He explained the various types of work involved including detecting and stopping drug smuggling and money laundering and the various ways criminals are detected. The end of the talk brought questions and comments from the members and it was a while before Val Davies was able to give the vote of thanks.

Supper was followed by the various groups giving reports on their meetings. Some of our members belong to a craft group in the village and had brought along a large quilt they had made which is to be raffled with the proceeds going to St Richards Hospice. There were also on display many items which our members had made for the Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) to be sold at their Triennial Conference to help offset the cost of the Conference. Our members had had a great time helping to make this and were loudly applauded by Littletons WI.

The competition “A Holiday Souvenir” was won by Amanda Bostock after which June closed the meeting but not before reminding us the next meeting is to be held on Tuesday, March 8 when Mark Billen will talk on “Creating Books for Children” and the competition will be a favourite teddy bear.

Guests and new members are welcome. For further information contact June Lloyd on 01386 830844.
