Our June meeting was a nostalgic evening for most people there. Paul Harding, our speaker for the evening, gave a talk on “The 1950s”, conjuring up childhood memories for many of us. Paul had brought along an amazing collection of memorabilia, and in his usual inimitable style gave a fascinating talk on a period which saw a many changes. At the beginning of the decade we were still suffering from post-war austerity, but by the end of the fifties the country was thriving. It was a time of great hope and a steadily improving economy, with a better standard of living for the majority. Beth thanked Paul for a very informative and entertaining evening.

Our competition was for “an article from the 1950s” and we had a lot of interesting entries for this. The winners were 1st Jenny Store, 2nd Christine Daley and 3rd Rosemary Prosser.

This month we have also enjoyed an outing to St.Fagan's National Museum of History in Cardiff and Barry Island. Other outings planned for later in the year include a visit to Croome Walled Garden, Cheddar Gorge Cheese Factory and Worcester races.

As always new members and visitors are very welcome at our meetings which take place in Wulstan Hall, Priest Lane at 7:30 on the second Thursday of the month.
