Having regaled us with the songs of George Formby last year, this year Matthew's subject was the Life and Songs of Victoria Wood. He characterised her brand of humour as down to earth. Matthew emulated his subject by playing the ukelele and singing many of her songs. Born in Bury in 1953, the youngest of four children, Victoria's many shows were outlined, including her various awards, including the OBE and CBE. She married a magician in 1980 and had two children. Although the marriage ended in 2002, they remained friends. Surprisingly, we learned that Victoria was a Quaker and a vegetarian. She kept her children out of the limelight and her terminal cancer was also kept quiet. She died in 2016 at the age of 62.

This was an entertaining presentation, much appreciated by members.
