AFTER welcoming members and speakers, Val Durnall and Doreen Jeeves, who were to speak on behalf of ACWW (Associated Christian Women of the World), we sang Jerusalem. President, June Lloyd, detailed the various events which had taken place over the past month and those we had to look forward to. We had entered the Group Quiz and although we had not won, we were pleased with our result. A good time had been had by all at Pebworth WI even though the questions were almost Mastermind level! A vote was taken on altering our August supper to the week-end and it was decided almost unanimously to leave it on a Tuesday evening with extra layers to be worn in case of inclement weather.

During April we have the Walking Group and Book Group to look forward to as well as the usual Lunch Group. There will also be the Craft Fayre at the Village Hall on 29 April, when Littletons WI will have their usual stall selling delicious cakes and preserves. Some of our members will be attending the Group Meeting at Pebworth to hear about the SS Great Britain. There will also be the last round in the County Skittles Competition to be held at Wickhamford against Badsey WI.

Rosie McCotter has handed the Sensory Bands knitted by some members to a local home for Alzheimers/dementia sufferers and we will endeavour to knit more in the coming months.

Gift vouchers for points gained in entering the competitions were won by Betty Jackson and Margaret Dalton

June then introduced our two speakers for the evening and Val Durnall, who has just taken over from Doreen as the Federation ACWW Representative, started her talk by showing us two bottles of water – one the type she would send her daughter to school with in her packed lunch and one representing a bottle of water gathered from a stream to drink in one of the African countries. This from a distance looked fine but when she shook the bottle it was muddy – this is what the villagers would drink and what they are hoping to help eradicate by supplying a means of fresh water supplies. Val went on to describe the nine areas the ACWW cover and the work they do. She then handed over to Doreen who talked about attending the Triennial Conference in Warwickshire last year which she felt privileged to have had the chance to attend. June gave the vote of thanks.

Supper followed and the competition “A Item from the Third World” was won by Val Davies with a carved wooden bowl from Kenya.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday, 9 May at 7pm when the Resolutions to be debated at the Annual Meeting in Liverpool will be discussed. The subjects are Alleviating Loneliness and Plastic Soup – Keep Microplastic Fibres out of our Oceans, both thought provoking subjects. We will also have a lesson/demonstration on how to use a defibrillator. For further information contact June Lloyd on 01386 830844. See also www.littletonswi.moonfruit.com
