THE Ladies were welcomed to our June Meeting on a warm sunny evening. Apologies, birthday wishes and our forthcoming outings were all mentioned together with the County News and their forthcoming events. There are still some vacancies on the Institute of Advanced Motorists course in September.

Jan Titley, one of our members, was congratulated for completing the Three Peaks Challenge and raising funds for Alzheimers.

Our cheerful speaker, Samantha Charnock, gave us a brief history of rag rugging and associated methods and then all the ladies were given a small square of hessian, a choice of pieces of fabric and a ‘dibber or prodder’ beautifully crafted from a hard wood. We were shown how to make the holes and thread the fabric through and back again and soon we were creating a mini-rug each! Samantha showed us other methods of creating rugs using strips of old blanket. There was much hilarity and a relaxed and interesting evening was enjoyed by all.

The winner of the draw for the flowers was Vi Brookes and the competition, something made by a member, was won by Betty Bowron, Chris Bailey second and joint third were Nadine Woakes and Pauline Bamber.

New Members and visitors are always welcome.
