POLICE want to speak to a man after a suspicious incident in Upper Slaughter yesterday.

At about 8.25am an 11-year-old local boy was waiting at the roadside just inside the Lower Slaughter Road near the B4068.

A car, described as being like a Volvo estate, approached the boy from the direction of Upper Slaughter, stopping in front of him.

The driver asked the boy if he wanted a lift. The boy declined and the man continued on his way in the direction of Naunton.

The man did not touch the child, attempt to force him into the vehicle or speak to him in an aggressive or persistent manner.

Sergeant Martin Jones from the local policing team said: “We are aware that there will be concern from parents following this incident but we would emphasise that no crime has been committed.

“However, we would like to speak to this man and offer him some words of advice about his behaviour.”

The man is described as white, aged between 60 and 70 years old, with dark hair and a dark beard but without moustache.

He was smoking a pipe and wearing a green tweed style shooting jacket.

The driver in question, or anyone with any information about the incident, should contact Gloucestershire Police on 101, quoting incident number 67 of January 19.

Information can also be given anonymously by contacting the charity Crimestoppers. Call 0800 555 111 or visit crimestoppers-uk.org
