BUDDING young chefs showed off their culinary skills on Saturday when they took part in a Young Chef Competition.

Seven Cotswold School students took part in the challenge, organised by North Cotswold Rotary Club, to produce a healthy three-course meal for two people costing no more than £15.

Winner Amy Brown, aged 15, impressed the judges with her carrot and tomato soup with cheese and chive bread, dill roasted salmon, new potatoes and steamed vegetables followed by a desert of blueberry pudding with lemon curd sauce and cream fresh.

The Year Ten pupil is studying food technology at GCSE and has been honing her skills at an after-school cookery club Let’s Get Cooking.

Julie Franklin, food technology teacher, was pleased with the result. She said: “It’s fantastic. I believe it’s the Lets Get Cooking that’s given her the confidence.”

Students Ben Darwent, aged 14, won second place and Jessie Norman, aged 16, came third.

Mike Boyes, President of North Cotswolds Rotary Club said: "All the judges were hugely impressed by the very high standard of meals prepared by all six students, their management of time and cost, and their enthusiasm.”

Amy will now compete in the District round of the Rotary International in Britain and Ireland (RIBI) Young Chef 2012 Competition in the spring next year.
