AN ELDERLY man had died after he was in collision with a lorry in Chipping Norton town centre yesterday.

The pedestrian, who was in his 70s and from the Chipping Norton area, was making his way along the High Street at about 10.30am when he was in collision with an eight-tonne Scania tipper lorry in the road.

He suffered multiple injuries in the collision and was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for treatment, but he died a short time later. His next of kin have been informed.

PC Neil Budd, of Thames Valley Police’s Roads Policing Unit based in Howes Lane, Bicester, said: “At this stage there is nothing to suggest the lorry driver could have done anything differently to prevent this tragedy.

“However I would still like to speak to anyone who saw the pedestrian, who was using a walking stick, or the red Scania tipper lorry, in the period leading up to the collision.”

Anyone with information, please call PC Budd via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 0845 8 505 505 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The main road through the town centre was closed while police carried out investigations.
