BBC presenter Sophie Raworth joined runners at the Cirencester parkrun ahead of her appearance at a nearby festival.

Organisers said conditions were "cold and bright" for the event, with volunteers praised for creating a warm welcome and marshals described as the "most encouraging ever".

Raworth, author of Running on Air, was among two famous additions to the event, with actors portraying King George VI and Queen Elizabeth for the Barn Theatre’s production of The King’s Speech also making an appearance.

Runners travelled from as far afield as Beverley, Wales and Winchester to take part, alongside newcomers and parkrun regulars.

The event also highlighted runner Nick Holliday’s fundraising efforts ahead of the Great South Run.

Nick is raising money for AMMF, the UK’s only charity dedicated to bile duct cancer, in memory of his brother Simon.

Raworth’s visit came ahead of her Cheltenham Literature Festival event, where she discussed her journey from BBC presenter to marathon and ultra-marathon runner with colleague Justin Webb.
