Safety netting atop the Redesdale Hall is starting to fail and has created a risk of loose tiles potentially falling to the ground below.
To protect the public and property, safety barriers have been installed on the side of the Redesdale Hall facing Tesco Express.
The barriers are expected to be a temporary measure after caretakers announced that Phase 2 of the restoration work, replacing the roof, if expected to begin in late August.
The Redesdale Hall underwent Phase 1, the restoration of the iconic clock tower, in 2025, which had not been heard for more than 100 years.
A fundraising target of around £1 million was set for Phase 2, with the Redesdale Hall now needing less than £35,000 to get over the line.
In January Cotswold District Council voted to allocated £200,000 to the project in Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) funding.
Taking to Facebook, a spokesperson for the Redesdale Hall Trust, said: “Important update & exciting news for The Redesdale Hall.
“You may notice some new barriers around the edge of The Redesdale Hall.
“These have been put in place because the safety netting on our roof, which is there to catch falling tiles, is beginning to fail. The barriers are there to prevent damage to property below, so please do not move them.
“We also have some wonderful news to share: we are expecting work on the restoration and replacement of the roof to begin towards the end of August. We are thrilled to say that we have secured the vast majority of the funding needed to make these vital repairs happen.
“We are looking to raise the final £35,000 to get completely over the finish line. If you would like to support the preservation of our beautiful hall, you can "buy a tile" and leave a lasting legacy.
“Thank you for your understanding regarding the temporary safety barriers and thank you for your continued support in keeping The Redesdale Hall safe, open and loved for generations to come.”
