Lidl is set to open a new store in the Cotswolds.

Located on Midland Way Thornbury, South Gloucestershire, the new supermarket branch will welcome its first customers at 8am on Thursday, July 30. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will mark the occasion.

Daniel Preece, regional head of property for Lidl GB, said: "We are incredibly excited to join the local community and businesses in Thornbury.

"This fantastic new store is a direct response to the local demand for high-quality, affordable groceries, and we couldn’t be prouder to welcome the community inside.

"A huge thank you to everyone who helped us turn these plans into a reality - we can’t wait to start making a real difference to your weekly shop."

On opening day, shoppers will be treated to complimentary food samples and the chance to win special prizes.

The store will be open Monday to Saturday from 8am to 10pm and Sundays from 10am to 4pm.

Spanning 1,341 square metres, the store features an in-store bakery, the 'Middle of Lidl' aisle, customer toilets with baby-changing facilities, and dedicated parking for cars and bicycles.

The site is also equipped with rapid electric vehicle chargers.

As part of Lidl GB’s sustainability efforts, the store is partially powered by rooftop solar panels.

Through a partnership with Neighbourly, the store will redistribute surplus food to nearby charities and food banks via Lidl’s Feed it Back scheme.

The retailer is also encouraging schools in the area to participate in the Lidl Foodies programme.

This free scheme supports children in developing healthy eating habits, with an emphasis on fresh fruit and vegetables.

Teachers will be able to access ready-made workshop plans throughout the year via the National Schools Partnership website.

Lidl was recently named the UK’s fifth largest supermarket, reflecting its growing popularity among shoppers seeking quality, affordable groceries.
