A Hollywood star, ego clashes and plenty of laughs are coming to the stage this month.

Bretforton Amateur Dramatics (BAD Theatre) is bringing the award-winning comedy A Bunch of Amateurs to life at Bretforton Theatrebarn from Thursday, June 25 to Saturday, June 27.

The heartwarming play, written by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman, tells the story of Jefferson Steel, a fading Hollywood action hero who jumps at the chance to play King Lear in Stratford.

Believing he’s about to join the prestigious RSC in Stratford-upon-Avon, he’s horrified to discover he’s actually signed up to perform with an amateur theatre group in the sleepy village of Stratford St John.

The play follows Jefferson as his Hollywood ego clashes with the down-to-earth enthusiasm and determination of the amateur cast, leading to a string of misunderstandings, culture clashes and comedic chaos.

Yet beneath the humour is a story of belonging, friendship, and the power of theatre to bring people together.

Alice London, Chair of BAD Theatre, said: "A Bunch of Amateurs is a wonderfully funny play with a big heart.

"Anyone who has ever been involved in amateur theatre—or simply enjoyed watching passionate people come together to put on a show—will recognise the characters and situations.

"We're thrilled to be bringing this much-loved comedy to the stunning Bretforton Theatrebarn and look forward to welcoming audiences for what promises to be fantastic entertainment."

BAD Theatre has been entertaining audiences in Bretforton and the surrounding area for a number of years.

A Bunch of Amateurs will be performed at 7.30pm each evening in the atmospheric Theatrebarn, with a matinee performance at 2pm on Saturday.

The bar will be open an hour before each show for pre-theatre drinks.
