An independent school in North Oxford has said the closure of a prestigious Cotswolds private school is "deeply unsettling".
The reaction comes as Rendcombe College in Cirencester closes after more than 100 years of teaching because it is no longer "financially viable" to remain open.
St Clare's Oxford, an international, independent day and boarding school in Banbury Road, released a statement expressing shock and offering an "alternative options" for students looking for new places.

A statement from the school said: "The announcement of Rendcomb College’s closure will be deeply unsettling for many in its community.
"While the independent education sector has experienced significant pressures in recent years, it is always distressing when a school closes its doors.
St Clare's Oxford said the closure news was 'deeply unsettling'
"Our thoughts are with the pupils, families, and staff whose plans and daily lives have been so suddenly disrupted."
Rendcombe College announced earlier this week that it would close at the end of the current academic year.
A statement said: "Despite Rendcomb College’s extremely strong track record as a school, the reality is that current and projected pupil numbers, alongside the economic situation facing independent schools across the country, do not make the school financially viable in the future.
"The staff and governors have done everything to make Rendcomb College an excellent school and its closure is highly unfortunate but sadly unavoidable."

It explained that an "enormous increase in deficit" this year and the "anticipated financial picture" for the next has made the school's usual funding source from the Rendcomb College Foundation "unsustainable" moving forward.
The statement added: "This is a very sad decision to have taken and follows the exploration of every other feasible option including mergers and other forms of funding."

The boarding school, established in the Cotswolds in 1920, charges fees starting at £3,370 a term for juniors and £8,945 a term for seniors.
Its closing statement concluded that the priority would now be to find appropriate alternative provision for staff and students.
St Clare's Oxford hosts pupils aged 15 to 19, and added it is "keen to support families who are now exploring alternative options for students entering year 11 or year 12", and are open to teaching staff who are "exploring new opportunities".

"Our priority is to help your child continue to flourish and to ease the transition for your family.
