A burglar who was caught after taunting police to "prove it" in interview has been jailed.
Jason Brown, 53, formally of Matson Avenue, Gloucester, received a five-year prison sentence at Gloucester Crown Court on January 22 for a string of break-ins across Gloucestershire.
His arrest followed a police investigation that tied him to three separate burglaries through CCTV and forensic evidence.
PC Tim Burch of the Gloucester Neighbourhood Support Team said: "Brown is a career criminal and a prolific burglar.
"He has shown a complete disregard for the safety and wellbeing of others, repeatedly targeting homes and leaving a trail of disruption, misery, and fear behind him.
"A five-year sentence reflects the gravity of his offending and sends a clear message that persistent burglary will not be tolerated.
"I hope this brings a measure of justice and reassurance to the victims and wider community."
The first burglary took place on November 6, 2025, in Abbeydale, Gloucester.
Brown broke into the home of a man who was away on a walking holiday following his wife’s funeral.
He stole sentimental jewellery belonging to the victim’s late wife, a camera collection and the victim’s car.
The stolen car was later found abandoned half a mile away, and DNA recovered from a window linked Brown to the scene.
The victim said the theft had robbed his children of heirlooms that could have kept their mother’s memory alive.
He said: "Sadly, this will now not happen, and they will not be able to own treasured items that would have allowed them physical memories of their mother.
"Not only have they lost their mother, but now have lost any chance of owning items belonging to her."
Just over a week later, on November 15, Brown was caught on CCTV attempting to break into a shed in Brookthorpe.
He entered the home and stole money, golf clubs, a ring, and credit cards.
DNA from the shovel he used matched Brown.
The final burglary occurred on November 30 at a home near his own address in Matson.

It is thought he gained entry through a large dog flap and was caught on internal CCTV wearing a dressing gown and sliders.
He stole Christmas presents and other items while one occupant slept on the sofa just metres away.
Brown was identified by police from the footage and handed himself in on December 8 after a week-long search.
In court, he pleaded guilty to all three burglaries.
