Here’s a selection of up-close-and-personal shots of the new clock tower atop the Grade II-listed Redesdale Hall in Moreton-in-Marsh, as well as a bird's eye view of the area that few residents will have seen.
These photos were taken from the top of the now-infamous scaffolding that has just been removed.
The charity behind the hall, working alongside local craftsmen and construction companies, has just completed the first phase of a historic refurbishment project. Last week, the clock tower was reinstalled after a full restoration, featuring a renovated golden weather vane and four clock faces with 16 new oak carvings.
This week sees the completion of months of hard graft by restoration and construction firms including Oak Frame Ltd, Simon Hayward woodcarvers, Smith of Derby clock restorers, Taylor’s Bell Foundry, Momentum Structural Engineers, Spartan Scaffolding, Woldon Architects and Heritage Roofing Company (Oxford).
Nick Loat, chairman of The Redesdale Hall Trust, said: “The Trust is thrilled with the stunning restoration of the clock tower - a triumph of local craftsmanship. The team of skilled artisans has meticulously replaced the structural timber frame and the carved panels surrounding the clock faces. The clock itself has also been restored, and the faces have been re-gilded, along with the boar’s head weather vane. The bells have also been reinstated and now chime for the first time in 70 years.”
The second phase of the ambitious project, slated for completion in 2026, aims to fully replace the roof, but the charity will need to raise around £900,000 for this. Large-scale fundraising efforts have begun.
Mr Loat added: “This is a proud moment for our charity and the local community. However, our mission continues as we now face the challenge of fundraising to restore the hall’s Cotswold tile roof, helping to ensure this iconic building survives for future generations.”
As part of ongoing fundraising efforts, the hall will host numerous events over the coming months, including comedy nights, a magic show and live music concerts - and the hall is available for hire. At the moment, local businesses are using the hall to offer tai chi, salsa, Pilates, art classes and more to the public.
