A Cotswold pub has been named pub of the year for Warwickshire for the second year on the trot.

Thirst Edition , a "micro pub" in Shipston on stour has won the Shakespeare CAMRA pub of the year award again.

With over 50 years in the business, 74-year-old owner David Allsopp, opened the "incredibly successful" pub six years ago in 2018.

Mr Allsopp said: "It was great news, we did not expect to win it once let alone twice, but I don't do it for the awards, I do it because I do it well.

"Its wonderful, this pub is a whole community, there have been so many friendships made in here, we also have the best bar staff in the region."

CAMRA members in Warwickshire voted in the annual awards in March before Mr Allsopp was crowned and presented with the award on April 9th.

There were many factors to vote on, including the range of ales down to the quality of the toilets, of which Mr Allsopp claims to have "the best toilet in town".

Mr Allsopp continued: "There is no place like this, its so friendly, we have visitors from all over the region.

"It has exceeded far beyond what we thought it could achieve."

He puts some of his success down to the way that the tables are laid out, in a way so that nobody can sit at a table alone, as well as the level of trust his customers have in the business, saying "the more you talk to people, the more they trust you".

Mr Allsopp said: "Its more like a relaxed café bar or a community hub, everyone knows everyone by name.

"There's a mutual respect in here that I just cant explain.

"In here there's no hierarchy, everyone is equal from the highflying managing director to the farm labourer.

"Women also love this pub and they come in on their own, you cant say that about every pub."

Thirst Edition seats around 40 people and is dog friendly but doesn't allow under 18s due to licencing conditions.
