A youth charity is calling on Cotswold residents to take part in its annual 100kinMay Challenge this Spring.

The Door's challenge welcomes participants to complete a 100-kilometre distance within May, through activities such as walking, running, jogging, cycling or swimming.

The charity aims to generate funds through challenge sponsorships.

The charity provides mental health services to 11-25-year-olds and their families across the district.

It runs thanks to contributions, and aims to keep services such as mentoring, youthwork and family support accessible to all.

A young person supported by the charity said: "Mentoring saved me.

"If it wasn’t for The Door, I don’t know where I would be right now."

They added: "The support my mentor has given me has made such a difference and has boosted my confidence so much that I have been able to stick with college and pursue my dream job.

"Mentoring has really helped me with expressing my feelings and getting everything off my chest.

"Mentoring is like having a friend who you can trust."

The charity's operations manager, Anne Townsend, said: "Taking part in 100kinMay is a great way to fundraise for The Door.

"You can take the challenge at your own pace in your own time and fit it in around your week.

"Knowing that each step, stride or pedal is helping others is a great motivator to get up and get out.

"Regular exercise is also great for your mental health, so while you are fundraising to support others, you could be helping yourself too."

A volunteer with The Door Shop said: "I really enjoyed taking part in 100KinMay Last year, it helped me get over my fear of walking and was actually fun!

"The support from the other people taking part was great and I can’t wait to take part again this year and raise even more for The Door."

Participants of the challenge will be able to join Facebook and Whatsapp groups, which will provide mutual support and encouragement throughout the month.

Registration is free for the challenge with no specified fundraising targets.

Those that are up for the challenge can find more information on thedoor.org.uk, or by calling 01453 756745.
