A MAN was jailed after a woman faked an asthma attack to escape her violent partner.

Levi Mahon, of Baylis Road, Winchcombe,  was sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty to common assault, assault causing actual bodily harm and strangulation on November 10 and 14, 2023.

Gloucester Crown Court heard on March 12 how the 21-year-old had told the victim that he was going to kill her and caused her to black out twice before she pretended to have an asthma attack.

The victim then went to her car, where she raised the alarm by continuously blasting the horn.

Prosecutor Neil Treharne concluded it had been a 'lengthy, prolonged and persistent attack on the victim who says Mahon used her like a human punch bag.'

Lloyd Jenkins, defending, said Mahon had little memory of the later events because he had taken Valium.

Mr Jenkins added: "Mahon has a number of flaws in his personality after being brought up in a violent household, with no role models in his life, with no purpose in life and he has struggled with drugs since the age of 17. But since being remanded in custody, he has become an enhanced prisoner with responsibilities."

Judge Rupert Lowe said it was lucky that the victim had the sense to fake an asthma attack.

He added: "You have an inability to control your temper, and not having an armoury of responses, you automatically turn to violence.

"The law states you are an adult and have responsibility for your actions.

"You should not take illegal drugs and you should not take your hand to women.

"The victim thought you were going to kill her. She suffered two blackouts after you had tried to strangle her. You told her she was going to die that night.

"Luckily she had the sense of mind to fake an asthma attack and raise the alarm from her car. This relationship lasted just two weeks and ended when you assaulted and tried to strangle your victim."

The judge sentenced Mahon to a two-year jail term.
