A 51-year-old woman has been arrested after teenage boy was allegedly sexually assaulted by a stranger in a town centre.

The incident took place on Wednesday evening (February 7) near Witan Way in Witney. 

The victim, a boy in his teens, was sexually assaulted by a woman he did not know.

Officers attended the scene and later arrested a 51-year-old woman from Witney on suspicion of sexual assault, theft and causing or inciting a child into sexual activity.

Police said she remains in police custody at this time. 

Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Katie Ford, said: “We are in the early stages of this investigation and work is taking place to establish the exact circumstances. 

“We have made an arrest and our officers will be in the area carrying out enquiries.

"As such, members of the public are likely to see an increased police presence.

“I’d like to appeal to anyone who has any information about this incident to come forward, particularly any drivers who might have dash-cam footage."
