POLICE officers investigating an assault have asked a group of men who were dressed as Christmas elves during the incident to come forward.

A taxi driver in his 50s sustained facial injuries when a man punched him in the face at the taxi rank in Station Road, Gloucester at around 11.35pm on Saturday, December 16.

The victim was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

A man in his 40s from Gloucester was arrested on suspicion of assault and was released on bail while enquiries continue.

After reviewing CCTV footage, investigating officers believe at least one of the men who were dressed as elves may have videoed the incident on their phone and would like to speak to him.

They have also asked any other witnesses who may have seen what happened or may have mobile phone or dashcam footage to get in touch.
