POLICE are clamping down on motorists who obstruct pavements, park in coach bays and block roads in a one of the Cotswolds' busiest tourist havens.

Officers from the Fairford and Lechlade Neighbourhood Police Team were out patrolling Bibury over the weekend and had stern words for a number of drivers who had parked illegally in the area.

Several drivers were told to move out of the minibus and coach parking spaces on the B4425.

Officers also spoke to motorists whose vehicles were blocking the road opposite Trout Farm.

One driver, whose car was obstructing and preventing access for larger vehicles in Cemetery Lane in Bibury on Sunday, November 18, was handed a fixed penalty notice.

The neighbourhood team is currently working with other organisations to find a long term solution to prevent illegal parking from happening in this area in the future.

A spokesperson for Fairford and Lechlade Neighbourhood Police Team said: "We appreciate this is an ongoing issue but please be assured that we are working with our partner agencies to address this, with the hope of a long term solution.

"We would encourage anyone affected to continue reporting illegally parked vehicles.

"We will continue to patrol these areas during peak times when possible.

"Thank you for your patience."
