An otherworldly scene shows pilots training with night-vision googles at an Oxfordshire air base.

An RAF A400M military transport aircraft is pictured sitting at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire before it departed on a three-stage Non Permissive Air Transport (NPAT) training mission over the UK.

The NPAT course allows pilots to fly into areas with an increased threat, training them to employ the A400M’s capable defensive aids suite.

On-board, the Captain from 30 Squadron was instructing two junior pilots from LXX Squadron.

The students were being taught how to fly the Atlas while utilising Night Vision Goggles, a vital capability employed by the Air Mobility Force’s frontline A400M crews.

The Captain in this case was an exchange pilot from The German Air Force, who has come from Air Transport Wing 62, Air Force Troop Command out of Wunstorf Air Base.
