A PLACE called Dirty Lane will be cleaned during a brook clear-up at Weston-Sub-Edge this weekend.

With Weston having suffered badly during last July's devastating floods, residents will clear obstructions from a mile of the village's Combe Brook in a bid to prevent future flooding.

They will also clear rubbish from a mile of Weston's Dirty Lane/Buckle Street area during the three-day operation from Friday, July 11 to Sunday, July 13.

Weston Riparian and Flood Action Group, formed to tackle the village's flooding problems following last summer's devastation, has organised the operation that will see volunteers meet at the Hall of Friendship at 9am daily to collect their equipment and task lists.

Cotswold District Council has made a donation to help fund the provision of diggers, skips, a dumper truck, chainsaws, food and drink.

Rupert Brice, the group's chair, urged all villagers to get involved and particularly wanted to hear from anyone licensed to operate equipment, as well as people with first aid certificates and knowledge of protected animals.

Anyone who has not yet volunteered but would like to can telephone Mr Brice on 07786 312359 or 01386 840580.
