A councillor has defected from the Liberal Democrats to the Labour Group on West Oxfordshire District Council.

Cllr Mathew Parkinson, who represents the ward of Stonesfield and Tackley, was elected to the council in 2021 as a Lib Dem.

The council’s proper officer received a notice on Monday, September 18, confirming that Cllr Parkinson had made the switch to Labour.

Cllr Parkinson has been contacted for comment about his decision.

The district council is run by a coalition of the Liberal Democrats, Labour, and the Greens.

In the notice, a review of the political proportionalities on committees was also requested.

Cllr Parkinson is chair of the audit and governance committee and vice chair of the licensing committee.

He is also a member of Woodstock Town Council and was formerly mayor of the town.
