An update has been provided on an ‘important’ car park in Bourton.

The finishing touches are being applied to Rissington Road car park following a major refurbishment.

Cotswold District Council has invested £370,000 into the project with the aim of creating a “first-class arrival experience”.

Deputy leader, councillor Mike Evemy, said: “The improvements we’re making to the Rissington Road car park here in Bourton on the water will provide a modern and accessible facility for visitors to the village.

“I’d like to thank the residents, visitors and business owners in Bourton-on-the-Water for their patience throughout the works over the winter.

“We recognise how important this car park is for tourism and businesses here in Bourton, so I’m pleased to say it is scheduled to reopen on time ahead of the Easter holidays.”

Work began at the end of October, with the final phase now underway.

The car park has been closed for around four months while work takes place.

Improvements have been made to the entrance and layout of the car park, with the entire site being resurfaced and a new drainage system introduced.

Meanwhile, wider parking bays and an increased number of disabled bays have been installed.

There has also been work to make the site more environmentally friendly.

Councillor Evemy said: “We’re committed to promoting sustainable travel here in the Cotswolds, so we’re installing eight electric vehicle charging points to ensure the Rissington Road car park is fit for the future of travel.

“The way we built the car park will allow us to increase electric charging capacity when needed.”

Work on the Rissington Road car park is set to be completed by Monday, March 27
