GLOUCESTERSHIRE'S Fire and Rescue Service team have celebrated their female staff for International Women's Day on Twitter.

Research from National Fire Chiefs Council in 2021 showed that women made up less than eighteen per cent of the total fire service workforce in England - with only seven per cent of those being firefighters.

A spokesperson for Glos Fire on Twitter said: "We think it’s important to recognise and celebrate, especially on #IWD2023, that we have the highest percentage of females in the workforce across services in England."

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

It has become an important day to celebrate women's achievements, educate and awareness raise for women's equality, call for positive change advancing women, to lobby for accelerated gender parity and to fundraise for female-focused charities.
