King Charles III has written a letter to the residents of a Cotswolds town.

Moreton Town Council penned a letter to His Majesty the King following the death of Queen Elizabeth II earlier this year.

This week, the council was delighted to receive a response from King Charles, who thanked the town for their sympathies.

He wrote: “It was so very kind of you to send me such a wonderfully generous message following the death of my beloved mother.

“Your most thoughtful words are enormously comforting, and I cannot tell you how deeply they are appreciated at this time of immense sorrow.”

King Charles ascended to the throne following the death of his mother on September 8.

Her Late Majesty’s death signalled a wave of tributes up and down the country.

Ahead of her funeral on Monday, September 19, remembrance services were held across the Cotswolds, including in Stow and Moreton.

The letter sent to King Charles by Moreton Town Council read: “The detail and events of the long reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second are recorded for posterity.

“Character, Dedication, Constancy, and the example Her late Majesty provided to us all are cherished and will live in our hearts and memories, as we are fortunate to remember her in life.”
