EVESHAM schoolchildren have found a ‘gun’ in the River Avon.
Two 11-year-olds from Blackminster Middle School were left stunned when they discovered a rusty firearm in the river by Workman Bridge.
Jack Rich and Max Wood found the gun when magnet fishing on Sunday, a hobby they have only recently taken up.
Jack’s mother, Victoria, said: “They are over the moon with their find.
"Jack had called us in a panic stating he had found a gun, and that he had already used his initiative not to touch the gun and had called 999 to have someone collect it.
“They were both aware the gun was not functionable due to the rust however wasn’t sure if it was an old gun, or maybe even used in a crime in the past.
“This is only the third time they have been magnet fishing.”

Jack and Max are keen anglers, usually plying their trade at Manor Farm in Harvington.
There they have caught many fish, some weighing more than 20 pounds.
West Mercia Police received a call at around 5.10pm on Sunday, November 13.
Officers arrived at the scene and collected the item, which a spokesperson states was later found to be a firearm.
Inspector Daniel Fenn said: “The boys did exactly the right thing in this situation. We ask for you to let police know immediately if an object of this nature is found, so the appropriate action can be taken.”
Jack and Max are hoping they will be allowed to keep the gun, if it safe to do so.
