HARBURY Chiefs won the Don Robbins Cup in the Warwickshire Floodlit 40s competition by beating Stratford Leopards 12-10 in the final at Stratford's Pearcecroft ground.

The midweek competition, played under floodlights in matches of 20-minute halves, was pioneered by Bob Jones of the South Warwickshire RFU three years ago and has proved a valuable way of retaining and attracting players who are unav-ailable to play regular club rugby at weekends.

The Floodlit 40s concept has now spread to the other Warwickshire sub-unions to provide a county-wide competition culminating in the finals day.

Harbury were regarded as underdogs for the final having been beaten by Stratford in a pool game before Chri-stmas.

But, they went in front with a penalty try, improved by Gary Bevan who then resto-red their lead with an unconverted second half try.

Mike Pedon scored Stratford's points with a try and a conversion.

Old Leamingtonians won the Don Robbins Shield with an 8-0 victory over Manor Park from Nuneaton.

Both trophies were presented by former Warwickshire president, Don Robbins.
