FOLLOWING the Queen's death Stage six of the Tour of Britain which would have gone through Gloucestershire today was cancelled.
The decision - taken last night - came before a further announcement saying that the rest of the tournament was also cancelled.
It seems that respect for the Queen's memory may not have been the only motive behind the decision.
Sports journalist and TV presenter Ned Boulting, who has been covering the Tour, claims that 'serious operational reasons, including police resources', was also an important consideration.
I'll add this: my understanding is that there are also serious operational reasons, involving police resources (motos), why this decision was taken. Officers have been recalled for duty in London.
