Blockley Ladies 5, Shipton Oliffe 1
BLOCKLEY made a bright positive start in the early morning sunshine.
Overall team effort, excellent passing and support play brought about three goals in the first half.
A Jo Peachey first-time strike opened the scoring, Sarah Rickey claimed the final touch for the second after a melee in the visitors circle and Fiona Drinkwater netted the third.
The second half saw Shipton step forward and tuck away a well-struck shot into the near corner.
Blockley, unperturbed, continued to push forward and were rewarded with second goals from Drinkwater and Rickey before the final whistle.
lockley 0, Newent II 1
A REARRANGED fixture, fortunately not inconvenienced by the early morning frost, saw Blockley start the stronger with greater possession and they were unlucky not to open the scoring.
Kerry Jackson's accurate flick-on found Sarah Rickey who struck the ball swiftly into the path of Fiona Drinkwater.
Flying solo, Drinkwater faced the Newent keeper whose initial attempt to clear deflected the ball back to the Blockley player who sidestepped the grounded keeper before tucking the ball home.
Unfortunately, the umpire disallowed the effort and the match remained goalless.
More of the same followed with Newent relying on their keeper to keep the hosts out.
They then revised their game plan and created their own chances after the interval and the only only goal came from a hard strike across the goalmouth that took a lucky deflection.
Blockley worked tirelessly to recover and level the deficit but they were unable to find the net.
