A cheeky squirrel has been caught on film making off with a bird feeder.

The pint-sized bandit was caught red-handed by Oxford Mail Camera Club member Stephen Pimm, who shared evidence of the small rodent’s theft in the Facebook group.

Mr Pimm captioned the pictures: “Don’t think this bird feeder is squirrel [squirrel emoji] proof [laughing emoji].

Photographs show the grey squirrel attempting to evade the scene of the crime with the bird feeder in hand.

However, the feeder appeared to be slightly too large for the squirrel to carry properly, making for a less-than agile getaway.

In 2018, The Guardian reported that squirrels loot up to half of seeds put out for birds in British gardens, leaving our native feathered friends short-changed.
