Cotswold resident Prue Leith has opened up on life in the limelight.

The Great British Bake Off judge admitted she does enjoy the fame that comes with the role.

However, the 82-year-old says her experience differs somewhat from that of fellow judge Paul Hollywood, who isn’t quite as grateful for the attention.

“He’s always very good-tempered if we’re somewhere and somebody comes up and wants us to do a selfie. He’ll say ‘Oh, all right then’, but he doesn’t like it," she said.

“He would much prefer to be somewhere nobody will see him.

“Whereas I think I’m quite grateful for it, these are the people who pay my wages.

“It’s really flattering. People are very nice.”

One place you may have spotted Prue is at Moreton-in-Marsh Country Market.

The market, held each Thursday from 10am till noon in the WI Hall on New Road, welcomed the culinary star earlier this year, following an invite from producer Ruth Wright.

Prue spent over an hour at the market, talking with customers and traders and even making a few purchases.

She also received a cushion embroidered by local woman Daphne Carss, who is in her 90s and took up the hobby during lockdown.

"Country markets are a wonderful institution, offering a fantastic selection of homemade products created with love by their producers,” said Prue.

“Let's hope the people of Moreton can continue to support the market for many years to come.”
