A NEW donation centre is set to open next week - so we went along to have a look.

The new Salvation Army Donation Centre in City Walls Road, Worcester, has been transformed ready for its opening Tuesday, May 24.

Staff and volunteers are currently putting the finishing touches to the centre and are busy encouraging people to donate.

Lisa Roberts, manager for the donation centre, said: "I am really happy, the site represents the Salvation Army Trading Company beautifully.

"The public has been donating and stopping to look through the windows so I feel we are already making a splash in the community.

"We are all really excited to open up, we have lots of stock so we are all revved up and ready to go."

Doors open on the day at 9am, with the formal opening at 2pm featuring a ribbon-cutting and a performance from the band.

The site was formerly The Bedroom Centre and also a Jaguar garage but has remained empty for a long time whilst the hunt was on for a new owner.

Gareth Samuel, development support manager, said:" This store has been really interesting for us to open, it's a great location by the roundabout with amazing windows for people to see in.

"We have already had lots of interest from customers and volunteers which is great. This is number 25 of our donation centres across the UK and Ireland."

The Salvation Army Church in Worcester is located in The Trinity but is an entirely separate entity from The Salvation Army Trading Company

John Bullock, mission secretary of The Salvation Army church in Worcester, said: "We have been working very closely with the Salvation Army Trading Company on this project.

"I have been popping in from when it was first taken over and have witnessed the transformation first hand.

"It's so contemporary and spacious, we can't wait to open up to the public."

The charity has also shared that they are looking for volunteers looking to gain retail work experience aged 14 or over to help raise money for The Salvation Army in the store.
