A bank branch in Stow will close later this year after a decline in customers.

Barclays, in Market Square, will close from June 23 with customers now facing a journey of up to 16 miles to the nearest branch.

The decision comes as the bank reported a drop in the number of people making use of the service.

In the two years up to March 2020, the number of counter transactions fell by 35 per cent, with just 254 transactions between April 2019 and March 2020.

Barclays also stated that 86 per cent of branch customers now use other ways to do their banking, such as online and telephone.

Almost a third (31 per cent) of the Stow branch's customers have been using nearby branches instead in the last 12 months.

In this time only 76 customers used the branch exclusively for their banking.

Where should I go now?

Barclays has advised Stow customers to go to branches in Oxfordshire or Worcestershire instead.

The nearest branch is in Evesham, on the High Street, which is 8.7 miles away.

Customers are also advised to go to the Chipping Norton branch, on High Street, which is 16.5 miles away.

There are also two free cash machines in Stow, at Lloyds in The Square and at BP Service Station on Station Road.
