Police have been tackling bad parking in Bourton.

Cotswolds Police say they have seen lots of parking obstructions in the Cotswolds village.

As such, several vehicles were handed tickets on Saturday.

The local police team tweeted: “Lots of parking obstructions in Bourton-on-the-Water today.

“Do not park on pavements opposite driveways and you must allow enough room for a wheelchair or pushchair to get by.

“Vehicles ticketed."

The tweet was accompanied by the hashtag #SummerStartedEarly.

According to police and councillors, the issue of parking in Bourton is a direct result of tourism.

Last month, police ticketed three vehicles as the annual problem appeared to be beginning earlier than usual.

County councillor Paul Hodgkinson said he will be working with the Parish Council to address the issue.

He said: “Parking has been an ongoing problem in Bourton due to the very large number of visitors which the village attracts.

“Last August alone in one month there was estimated to be 155,000 visitors!”

He added: “However, there are still a lot of parking spaces available in the various car parks - visitors shouldn’t be using residential streets as there usually is no need to.

“In the peak months the school opens up for parking too.

“The parish council and I are continuing to look at residents parking zones for instance to see if they are practical.”
