WESTFIELDS host second placed Bradford Town this weekend knowing that a win to close the gap on their title rivals.

Despite making three mid-week signings to boost their Hellenic Premier campaign Phil Glover's side suffered a 3-0 defeat at relegation-threatened Lydney Town on Saturday.

Westfields’ away form, in which they have only won three of their last nine league matches away from home, continued to be disappointing when they found Lydney to be a hard-working unit who completely outplayed them from start to finish.

In fact it took Lydney only four minutes to score their opening goal when Jordan Sheen raced through the Fields defence before unleashing a powerful drive from the edge of the penalty area into the bottom corner.

Glover's side struggled to get into their stride and found themselves two goals down inside 25 minutes when a right-wing shot was deflected by Westfields skipper Kane Kahaki into his own goal.

Westfields did come back and the Lydney keeper saved brilliantly from a Jamie Bird header and then a great drive from Harrison Iddles was also saved.

After the break Westfields tried hard to get into their stride but found the heavy pitch not to their liking so manager Glover made changes looking for a response.

Cawley Cox along with new signings Ollie Butler and Ruslan Zakhardav all came on in an effort to spark a revival.

However, it was the home side who increased their lead when Tom Baldwin beat the offside trap and raced through to score a fine solo goal and give Lydney a convincing 3-0 lead with 75 minutes on the clock.

Westfields could just not find a way through a strong Lydney side who looked far from relegation candidates and put together an impressive display to register three valuable points.

Along with defender Butler and winger Zakhardav Westfields have also signed former Merthyr & Cinderford Town defender Lewis Binns.
