A well-used Worcester venue is facing a mass walkout following 'conflict' between its committee members.

Several members of Fernhill Heath War Memorial Club, including the chairman, Kevin Browning, have already stepped down after a disagreement over the club's entertainment.

In an open letter of resignation, Mr Browning said he felt the committee was "letting members down".

He said: "Over the last six months we have had many disparities of opinion regarding the process and legalities of the running of the club.

"There have also been many differences of opinion regarding club entertainment and goals to move the business forward.

"Many of the committee are only interested in the entertainment on a Friday night, with no concerns for the majority of the member's requirements outside of Friday nights.

"Our conflict has affected my ability to manage the club and left me and many other members feeling frustrated and uncertain about the club's future.

"It is clear to me most of the committee and I will not be able to resolve our differences.

"Therefore, I feel that under the current committee resigning is the best option for me and I strongly feel we are letting members down with no plan for the future generate of customers."

A spokesman for the club said the secretary was the first to resign before the situation "snowballed".

He described the issues being the result of 'politics and bad feeling'.

Mr Browning confirmed in his letter he would continue to run the club as normal until January 27, further offering to meet with both committee and club members to discuss succession plans.

Established in 1922, the club serves as a memorial for the men of Fernhill Heath who gave their lives in the 1914-1918 war and as a social meeting place for armed forces and village personnel.

Members can join the club for just £10 a year, with various activities and events regularly on offer.
